Tia Spells

Ms. Spells has studied Kung Fu with Grandmaster Vita and Wushu with the National Wushu Training Center under the tutilege of Coach Eric and Coach Debbie Chen. Her weapons background include the Saber(Broad sword), Double Saber(Broad swords), Straight sword, Staff and 3-section staff.

Ms. Spells enjoys jet skiing, sky diving, hang gliding, horseback riding, gymnastics, boxing, kick boxing, rollerblading, hiking, ice skating, playing football, bike riding and so much more.

Ms. Spells became interested in martial arts as a child. She saids, "Bruce Lee was my first original inspiration and then came many more such as Jet Li, Jackie Chan and Tony Jaa. I enjoyed all styles of combat, observing boxing heroes such as Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Oscar de La Hoya, Roy Jones and so many more. I adore the self discipline that comes along with martial arts and all types of sport and fitness. There is nothing that I enjoy more."

"As I grew older I gravitated to comic books and cartoons for my Superheroes. I longed to see an African American superhero yet there were never any roles for us. I was able to watch Angelina Jolie in Tombraider, Mr. and Mrs. Smith and WANTED, Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, the Matrix but no leading roles for African American women to display their love or talent in martial arts."

"When I heard that there was an audition for CARGO, a martial arts film short with the lead role being an African American female, I nearly burst with excitement. I was determined to get the part. I was the last audition of the day and was overjoyed and elated when Gerald informed me that I had gotten the role. This was my first role in a film and it was exactly what I wanted to do. I am eternally grateful to Gerald for the opportunity. I not only landed the role of my dreams but also made a great friend."

Ms Spells is also a Human Performance Specialist/Personal Trainer and songwriter.
