Rati Gupta

Rati Gupta grew up in the small town of Michigan City, IN. She started her dance training at an early age, first with the traditional Indian technique of Kathak, and then later in ballet, tap, and jazz. She become the captain of her high school dance team and was named a Universal Dance Association All Star, awarded for excellence in her pom and hip hop skills. With the Universal Dance Association, Rati performed in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City and the New Year's Day Parade in Paris.

Rati went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Dance at Northwestern University. She studied under several of Chicago's most well-known choreographers such as Billy Siegenfeld, Laura Wade, and Molly Shanahan, and performed in the faculty-choreographed showcase Danceworks and many other dance productions at the university. In 2005, she made her choreographic debut in Chicago at the city-wide festival Dance Chicago with her piece "Clash."

While at Northwestern, Rati was also a director, choreographer and performer for the university's premier theatrical drum and dance ensemble, Boomshaka. Boomshaka put on it's own full length show every spring, was awarded an arts grant from the Center for Disciplinary Research in the Arts, was featured on MTV's TRL, and performed all across the country at schools and various events. In her final year, Boomshaka's annual show Behind the Groove was awarded "Best Performing Arts Show" by the university.

In Chicago, Rati worked with several contemporary and hip hop dance companies, including Be the Groove, Joel Hall Dancers, and Dance 2XS. She moved to LA in 2007, and has since been featured in several music videos, commercials and films, including Cargo, directed by Gerald Haynes. Known for her sassy attitude, comedic timing and quirky voice, she can now be seen doing stand up at comedy clubs all over LA.
